The Rotary Club of Brantford - Sunrise will induct three new Paul Harris Fellows Mary Welsh – Lucy Marco – John Utley. The Paul Harris Fellows recognition is the highest honour that a Rotary Club can bestow on any person or business. It recognizes and acknowledges our motto “Service Above Self”.

Mary Welsh (top left) has spent her entire life as a tireless champion of civic causes. Many leaders in Brantford have known for years that if there is a project of significant importance then you “Call Mary”. Mary has Chaired or is an Executive Member of BCI Alumni Association; Brant Waterways Foundation; Brant Animal Aid Foundation; Big Brothers; St. Josephs Hospital Foundation; Gordon Glaves Memorial Trails Steering Committee; Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Advisory Board; YM-YWCA Fund Raising Campaign; Mohawk College Capital Fund Raising Campaign; Downtown BIA and The Chamber of Commerce of Brantford. In 2007 Mary was Brantford Citizen of the Year and in 2009 she was awarded the Order of Ontario.

Lucy Marco (top right) retired from her job as Director of Immigrant Services in 2006 and has been described as “the City’s busiest retiree”. Over the years Lucy has served on over 30 community boards, and committees including President of the Grand River Council on Aging and Steering Committee member of the Master Aging Plan. She was a founding member of the International Villages 1974, Board Member of the YM-YWCA, Board Member of Y Homes, member of the Continuing Education Advisory Committee, Probus Club Executive and Member of the BCI Alumni Association. In 2006 the YMCA Building became Lucy Marco Place which now houses Laurier Brantford students and in 2009 she received the Citation for Citizenship.

John Utley (bottom left) John Utley has over 35 years volunteer experience and was honored with the Queens Jubilee Medal for Community Service in 2002. John has been a member of the Brant United Way Campaign Cabinet 2007 to present. Kids Can Fly founding member and past Chair. 18 year member of the Kiwanis Club of Brantford where he is a distinguished past president. John served on the Willett Hospital Board of Governors when they initiated the Palliative Care Unit. He was a founding member and Chair of the Brant Skills Development Group. Former Board Member of the Brantford / Brant Regional chamber of Commerce. John served for 10 years on the Organizing Committee of the Wayne Gretzky Sports Classic.
